How to motivate people ?

A client came to us with a device and app designed to help users maintain healthy posture. The problem was clear: even when given for free, users were reluctant to use it, despite knowing the health risks of poor posture and even experiencing posture-related pain.

“I don’t have the energy or the capacity to add any more demands to my day.”

What process did we go through?

What process did we go through?

  • We analyzed the competitive landscape, looking both at posture tracking devices and existing motivational tools.

  • We interviewed 12 users to uncover their pains, challenges, and what drives their behavior.

  • We applied Jobs to Be Done and the Value Proposition Canvas to turn our research into actionable insights.

  • Based on these insights, we designed wireframes for a tool that helps users improve their posture with minimal effort.

  • We refined the application to enhance user motivation and encourage consistent engagement.

What Did We Discover?

We concluded that in a world where people are overloaded with responsibilities and obligations, there is no room for additional tasks or burdens. Even threats such as developing a hunchback or facing health problems later in life are not effective motivators. People can’t take on more duties - people want pleasure that delivers results.

The UX part of the project was developed in collaboration with Magda Zawadzka, Justyna Worwa, and Gabriela Weltz.

To enhance readability in the app, we introduced three different gradients, each corresponding to a specific section.

App Screens

While redesigning the app, we made sure that users receive motivation linked to their in-game progress from the very first screens.

Game Screens

We created a game world where the player feels good, and we also made sure they are informed about their score and game status.
